まだLab段階ですし、My.Operaのアカウントがないと利用できなかったりしますが、この発想は非常に面白いと思います。
テーマは、9.5のオンラインブックマークと同じく、「同期性」にあると思います。

Persisting widget data across platforms and devices using Opera's XML store - Opera Developer Community
Opera widgets often have the need to persist data - this is usually saved locally using preferenceForkey preferences. This works well, but it has the limitation that the data is only available to that single browser installation. To let widgets have access to the same data across different platforms and devices the idea of a simple RESTful XML store came to mind, and this thought motivated us to releasing the Opera XML Store, which does just that - persists widget data across different platforms and devices using XML, in a RESTful manner. This article gives you an introduction to using it in your widgets.

今までのOpera widgetsはデータを主にローカルに保存していたけど、そうすると、ぶっちゃけ、そのPCしか使えないじゃんね。不便だよね。なので、そのデータを他のプラットフォーム、デバイスからでも使えるように、Opera XML Storeなんかを作ってみた（XMLを使っているよ）。さあ、今から、その手順を説明するよ。
というわけで、現在は、サンプルとして、3つのwidgetがあるわけですが、
・Notes widget
・Shopping list widget
・Hello Opera XML Store
このうち、みんなが使えそうだなと思うのは、「Notes widget」ではないかなと思います。
ということで、これを使ってみた。
まず、My.Operaのアカウントを作り、ログインする。

※無料です。これから多分、いろいろと使うことが多いと思うので、作っていない方はこれを機に作って置いた方がいいと思います。
widgetをダウンロードする。
□Notes - Opera ウィジェット
データを閲覧することを許可する。
□Welcome - Opera XML Store

これでメモ機能を違う環境で見たり、他の人と共有できたりします。
このwidgetを見ていて思うのは、Operaはオンラインで情報を扱えるようにしようとしているのかなということです。まあ、その流れは（今のWebの動向から考えるに）間違いない…のかな。
今後の展開に期待ですね。
